common deal, milk paint, hardware.
constructed 2009.

christmas 2009 afforded an opportunity to furnish my little sister’s apartment. she got a twin bed with benches at the head and foot, a medium sized bookshelf, and a coat-tree. all three pieces were designed for quick construction, usefulness and longevity; then constructed and finished so they will grow more beautiful with age.

the head and foot of the bed can be used as seating or shelving depending on need.

the bed ends and bookshelf were both built with through dovetails.

the shelves were constructed with pinned sliding dovetails.

the coat tree was built from one standard 1″x8″ pine board, built to be knock-down if necessary, extremely lightweight yet very sturdy.

I think the only thing that upsets me at all about this post is what ugly books you used to photograph the shelf. I have such pretty books, and you only used the paperback, commercial ones.
